Of course, we can all mention the obvious:  Attend Mass every Sunday; get involved in charitable and volunteer work, etc.  Most Catholic business folks I know are very good about checking those items off the list.

I believe that we can do more for our world.  But how? with the schedules that all of us carry?

It begins, of all things, by focusing on ourselves.  How is our personal, private relationship with God?  Is your prayer life lacking in frequency and intensity?  Only by humbling ourselves before Him in prayer do we really see our place as his instruments in this world.  I constantly struggle with finding time for this; but when I do, life has so much more clarity and purpose.

A few tips that I have found helpful.

1.   Carry a Rosary in your car and maybe a booklet on the prayers.  Don't feel like you have to get through the whole thing.  You'd be amazed what saying one decade (12 prayers), focusing on your spouse on the way home from work, can do for your family life.  If you need one they send out free rosaries at RosaryArmy.com

2.   Try saying short 20 second prayers on the way to your next meeting.  Pray for the person/peolpe at the meeting and ask for the Spirit to be with you all.  Things always seem to flow smoother.

3.   Get up 30 minutes early every day and pray, read the daily Mass readings, etc.  You can bookmark the Mass readings from the US Catholic Bishops website.  Just spend some time in quiet reflection.  A body was not meant to take on the troubles of the World News as soon as we rise without preperation.

4.   Find at least one time during the week to go to Mass by yourself or with another adult.  Daily Mass is quiet and alows for more reverence.  Even if you travel, you can always find a place to go.  Check out www.MassTimes.org and keep it on your bookmarks.  I have found that whenever I think about going to Mass this week, God always gives me the time.

5.   Attend Eucharistic Adoration when your Parish holds it.  Experience humility.

Only by a little focus on ourselves can we give more this year.  We can be better "Catholic Professionals"  and representatives of Christ in this incresingly secular and bitter world.

In Christ
