Isn't it great when you see that character in the movie or book come to that moment of realization; that moment where they see a truth you were aware of the entire time? That's why we are entertained. We know those are the times to treasure in life; when we reach beyond ourselves.
How come these moments don't happen more in our lives; especially in our professional career? Maybe we are not actively seeking opportunities to open ourselves up; put our neck out on the line. The way we find these epiphanies is to break out of the focus on ourselves and focus on the servant lifestyle that we are called to live.
When I have a moment of clarity at work it is usually when I am teaching a colleague or helping out in the warehouse. Work that is not listed in my job description but always provides opportunities for fullfillment.
My favorite author, Randy Hain, just sent me an article that expands on this subject. Check out the link to his article in the Catholic Business Journal. He gives you a list of 10 ways to extend your ministry at work.
Doesn't it make life and work more worth it? Fullfilling God's calling, within your vocation, can make for a happy life.

I set the LORD ever before me;
with him at my right hand I shall not be disturbed.
